History of the faculty

The training of dentists in Zaporizhzhya State Medical University began in 2007. At the same time, the course of dentistry was founded under the direction of Professor Igor V. Berdyuk. In July 2010 the course was reorganized into the department of dentistry, the head of the department was appointed to the candidate of medical sciences. Gavrilenko MA, since March 2011, the head of the department appointed Vozno O.V.

In order to optimize the educational, educational, pedagogical and scientific processes, as well as to improve the training of students in the field of “Dentistry” in September 2011, there was a need for a structural reorganization into two departments: “General and special dentistry” and “Otorhinolaryngology and propaedeutic dentistry”. Since September 2012, the Department of General and Specialty Dentistry has begun training of dental practitioners, interns, and masters. In 2012 the department has let out the first 29 doctors-dentists. In October 2013, in order to improve the educational process, the department was reorganized into the department of therapeutic, orthopedic and pediatric dentistry and the chair of propedeutic and surgical stomatology. In 2014 the department carried out the first issue of doctors of interns and 3 masters. In 2015, the department carried out the first issue of foreign dental practitioners and 2 clinical residents.

At present, about 300 native students, 32 interns, 6 masters, and 1 clinical student are studying at the faculty. Graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry after graduation receive a diploma of a state standard, which certifies their higher education in the specialty “Dentistry”.

The material and technical base of the faculty

The material and technical base of the dental faculty fully provides the conditions for the training of specialists in the specialty 7,8.12010005 “Dentistry” and meets the requirements of training specialists.

The faculty developed a system of computer training based on basic computer classes, provided with the possibility of free access to the Internet. Modern multimedia technologies are used. The University Library fully provides students with educational, reference and methodological literature.

The teaching staff of the faculty

There are 2 professors, 3 doctors of medical sciences, 14 associate professors, 13 candidates of medical sciences, 11 assistants, postgraduate students, undergraduates, and a clinical intern.

Students of the faculty

About 300 students study at the faculty. Among them, more than 10% are excellent students. One in five conducts research work in the student’s scientific community. They present their reports at the final scientific conferences of the University, in other universities and at international scientific conferences in other countries.

All conditions for students leisure are created at the faculty. At the sports club of the university, there are sections for practicing all kinds of sports. Most students are active participants in amateur performances.

The faculty has secured hostels. They have created all the conditions for preparing for classes and the rest of the students. Internet network, library, reading room function. Equipped with cooking and personal hygiene facilities.

Students’ self-government, the trade union organization of students, student councils of dormitories are successfully operating at the faculty.

The powerful staffing potential of the faculty, modern information and logistical support of the educational process, scientific and clinical activity allow to achieve a high level of preparation of students, masters, postgraduates and doctoral students, to introduce innovative pedagogical and therapeutic technologies.
