History of Faculty
Zaporozhye State Medical University holds one of the leading places in Ukraine for the recruitment of foreign citizens for studying. Since 1973, more than 5.5 thousand foreign students from 101 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, America, 40 graduates have graduated from the postgraduate study program and successfully defended their dissertations in the fields of Medicine and Pharmacy. Since 2002 foreign language training in ZSMU has been conducted in English.
In 1973 a preparatory faculty for foreign citizens was opened. Since 1974 their studies at the medical and pharmaceutical faculties have begun.
In September 1976 a faculty was set up for the training of foreign citizens in the following specialties: “Therapeutic Case”, “Pharmacy”, “Pediatrics”.
In September 1999, the faculty of foreign language training was renamed into an international faculty.

The training of foreign citizens in specialties “General Medicine” and “Pharmacy” has been carrying out in Zaporozhye State Medical University since 1973. About 10500 specialists have got medical and pharmaceutical education and are working now in more than 100 countries of the world, taking up high positions in the public health systems of their countries.
At present 1800 foreign students study at the International Faculty № 2 in the specialties “General Medicine”, “Pediatrics” “Dentistry” and “Pharmacy” and at the stage of postgraduate education. They are from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Armenia,Vietnam, Ghana, Guinea, Greece, Georgia, Ecuador, Egypt, Zambia, Israel, India, Iraq, Cameroon, Kenya, China, Columbia, Cote d’Ivoire, Lebanon, Libya, Madagascar, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Niger, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru, Russia, Syria, Tanzania, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka. The medium of instruction is Ukrainian, Russian and English.
English medium of instruction has been providing at the ZSMU since 2002. More than 1024 foreign citizens study in English now.
